July Regular Board of Education Meeting Date Changed

The date of the regular July board meeting has been changed from Tuesday July 15 to Monday, July 21, 2014.   The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the high school. 

Ross Wolford Attends State Highway Patrol Junior Cadet Academy

The following is a press release and photo from the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Columbus: 

Woodmore student Ross Wolford completed training for the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Junior Cadet Program held June 22-26 at the Highway Patrol Training Academy in Columbus. Ross was one of 30 Junior Cadet participants selected from applications submitted by young men and women who attended Buckeye Boys and Girls State earlier this month, exhibited exemplary performance throughout the previous school year, or eligible children of Patrol employees who will be high school seniors this year.

The Junior Cadet Program is designed to give young people better insight into the challenges faced by law enforcement officers by enabling them to experience a typical week at the Training Academy. To enhance their learning experience, Junior Cadets are required to spend the entire week at the Training Academy, sleeping in the dormitories and dining in the cafeteria. While at the Academy, they gain knowledge from Patrol Academy staff regarding crash investigation, officer/violator contacts, self-defense tactics, K-9 operations, building searches, motorcycle operations, impaired driver apprehension and military drill. 

Lt. Colonel Kevin D. Teaford, Assistant Superintendent, presented graduation certificates to the young men and women who participated in the Junior Cadet Program at a ceremony that was held at the Training Academy.  Family and friends of the cadets were also in attendance.

Please Return Paperwork:  Any student interested in participating in a high or junior high sport during the 2014-15 school year needs a physical and to complete a number of other forms that make up the Athletic Participation Agreement packet which was passed out the last week of school.  If you do not have the packet (which includes the OHSAA physical form) the forms can be downloaded and printed from the athletic page on the Woodmore Local Schools website or by stopping by the office at the high school.  Pages of the Participation Agreement can be turned in at the high school office at any time this summer - you do not have to wait until the last week of July.  No student-athlete will be allowed to participate in their respective sport until all pages of the Athletic Participation Agreement  that need to be returned are on file in the high school office.

Check Website:  Continue to check the athletic pages of the Woodmore Local Schools website this summer for updated information including schedules for the upcoming 2014-15 season, which is now just around the corner.  Coach Steve Burner's boys' golf team gets the fall season underway on Aug. 11 participating in the Hohenstein Classic in Clyde.

BINGO! at Woodville 4th of July Celebration

Woodmore staff will be helping in the Woodville Business and Community Association's BINGO tent on Friday, July 4th. Our local businesses help support our students and school in so many ways.  Proceeds from their fundraisers have been used to benefit the business district and community, as well as provide scholarships for our students for many years.  Please stop by the BINGO tent from 6:00-10:00 p.m. on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th at the Woodville 4th of JulyCelebration to have fun and support this very worthwhile fundraiser.

Woodville fireworks are scheduled for Saturday, July 5th at 10:00 p.m.

Elmore Summer Reading Club - Our theme for summer reading club is "Fizz, Boom, Read!"  Registration will begin on June 9 - those who read (or are read to) for 500 minutes by July 31 will receive a T-shirt, courtesy of Diversified Insurance.

July 10 - The Toledo Zoo will present a science-based program on Thursday, July 10 @ 2:00.

August 18 - Magician Jim Kleefeld will be here on Monday, August 18 @ 1:30.

The library will also begin a "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" reading program as a way to encourage early literacy. This program will be a self-paced, ongoing project, and may be started at any time and may take several years to complete.  The library will provide incentives throughout the program to encourage parents to keep reading to their pre-school age children
