Superintendent's Weekly Update

  December 12, 2014

SAVE THE DATE-Sunday 1/25/14
Please help us celebrate the opening of our new PreK-8 building by attending the Ribbon Cutting / Open House that will be heldSunday, January 25, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.  The community is invited to join us and tour the new building. If anyone is interested in helping by being part of the planning committee, or possibly sponsoring a portion of the event, please contact me at 419-862-1060 (Ext. 101).
Letter from Joe Wank, Elementary Principal

Dear Woodmore Parents and Guardians,

It has finally arrived, the MOVE to the new building. We are very excited and nervous to go through such a large process over the winter break, but we are preparing and think we can make it work.  Our goal is to try to get our students into the new building for a visit before the break. Hopefully, we will be able to give the students a tour and have the students put some of their things in the rooms.

Many of you have asked if we need help moving and our answer is that we will see. We have planned for some support and if we see a need for additional help, we will put out that information in an instant alert message.

Drop-Off procedures.ALL vehicles that are dropping off students must use the entrance on Route 20. Bus arrival and departure will only use the 2ndstreet entrance to the building; the buses won't be coming onto the property from the Route 20 entrance. When dropping off students from a vehicle, please use the entrance from Route 20 and pull in front of the building and drop them off. If you wish to walk the students into the building, there are some parking spots in the front of the building for you to use.

Dismissal process. We are looking at ways to improve the safety of dismissal time and we feel that the following will support this goal. When we begin lessonsafterbreak, we will be dismissing car riders first, at3:15. The car riders will report to the front vestibule and wait to be dismissed out of the building. I will be out front with a walkie-talkie calling into the building for students. The cars should be in a single-file line near the curb lane and this will allow cars to leave when the students have gotten in the car. My recommendation is to have all students enter the vehicles on the curb side of the building, so that they never go around a vehicle. Bus riders will then be dismissed, starting at3:20, and they will go out the back main entrance. The final students to be dismissed are the walkers, at3:25, as this should leave a minimum of ten minutes between the walkers crossing roads and the cars leaving at the light. I know this is different than we have done in the past, but it is not meant to be an inconvenience to you, but more for the safety of the students.

Building Tours/Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. We are looking at having some tours during the break. We are planning on opening up the building on the following days and times:Monday, December 29th at 9:00and 1:00, Tuesday, December 30th at1:00 and 5:00.The Ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled forSunday, January 25th from 1:00 to 3:00.If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 419-862-1070 ext. 201 or by email atThis email address is being protected from spambots. 2-hour Early ReleaseDecember 17, 18, and 19

There will be a 2-hr. early release for students in PreK-12 grades onDecember 17, 18, and 19. The two hours each day will be used for staff  to begin moving the elementary into the new building.

A Note from the Treasurer ......

According to the most recent District Profile Report (also known as the CUPP Report), which can be found on the Ohio Department of Education's website, Woodmore Schools receives $790 less in State Revenue per student than the Statewide average. Likewise, total revenue per student is $2,325 less than the State average and district expenditures per student are down as well.  This is due to the funding formula set forth by the State and due to receiving less revenue at the local level. For more information, go towww.education.ohio.gov, and search for District Profile Report.

Did you know....Woodmore Local Schools receives approximately $52,000 per year that is specifically earmarked for Gifted Education.
