Woodmore High School Band Receives a Superior Rating (I) at the 2012 OMEA STATE MARCHING BAND FINALS
On Saturday, October 27, the Woodmore High School Band had the privilege of competing at the Ohio Music Education Association 2012 State Marching Band Finals held at Hilliard Bradley High School in Columbus. Woodmore's band was one of only 15 Class 'C' marching bands from across the state of Ohio to earn the honor of competing on the state level. They performed their final show titled "Music of Cirque du Soliel". The band received Superior Ratings at all three of their competitions during the fall season. The Woodmore Band has enjoyed a long history of Excellent and Superior ratings in both marching and concert groups. Performing in marching competitions since the early 1990's, the group has qualified for State Finals all but two seasons earning a total of seven State Superior Ratings prior to this year. The Concert Band has collected 26 Superior Ratings at State in Class C and B. Many members are very active in Solo & Ensemble as well. This year the band looks forward to traveling to Walt Disney World in Florida in April of 2013.
Dear Friends of Woodmore Instrumental Music:
You are receiving this letter because you have a son or daughter who is involved in the Instrumental Music Department at Woodmore, or because you have supported the Woodmore Band in the past. The Woodmore Band Boosters is a group of people who are interested in supporting the instrumental music students in the Woodmore Schools. The majority of our support is financial – music education requires a lot of money. We buy awards, pay contest admission fees, purchase equipment for the instrumental music students, and pay approximately $5000 towards the cost of band camp each year; along with accruing money for band uniforms, which need to be replaced on a regular basis. Also, we support our students and their directors with our time and energy by attending concerts, chaperoning events and advocating enthusiasm for music.
Here are some of the important ways that you can help the Woodmore Band Boosters this year:
Þ Pay dues using the enclosed Membership Form.
Þ Volunteer your time by indicating your interests on the Membership Form.
Þ Work your selected shift in the football concession stand.
(Grades 6-8 please call Connie at 419-849-2309 or Teri at 419-862-3565 to sign up!)
Þ Attend concerts, contests, and enthusiastically support our students (some dates below).
Þ Attend the Band Booster meetings.
Þ Anyone interested in supporting the Woodmore Instrumental music program is encouraged to attend the Band Booster meetings. The booster meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. (Check the Woodmore website for any changes.) Please mark the dates for this year’s meetings on your calendar now, and plan to attend. All meetings are held at 7 PM in the high school band room.
Keep your eyes open for upcoming dates for the 2012-2013 contests and concerts, listed in concert band programs and in paperwork that comes home with your student during the school year. A list of possible fall marching band contests is as follows:
Possible Marching Band Contests:
September 22, 2012 – Columbus Grove
October 6, 2012 – Sandusky Perkins
October 20, 2012 – Swanton
Oct 26-28 & Nov 2-4: Marching Band State Finals
Fundraising activities tentatively planned for the year include: Tank’s meat sale, Market Day, concessions stand at all home football games, Jazz Band dinner in the spring, and Little Caesar’s pizza sale. Anytime you have questions or suggestions for the Band Boosters, please call any one of us. Thank you in advance for you generous support – let’s make it another great year!!!
